Overview
The Sarajevo Haggadah is an illuminated Hebrew manuscript created in medieval Iberia and later preserved in Bosnia. Its pages combine the Passover text with biblical images, ritual instructions, and decorative motifs reflecting artistic exchange among Jewish, Christian, and Islamic environments. Ownership notes and later history connect the manuscript with post-expulsion movement across the Mediterranean. Its survival through war and political upheaval has made it a powerful symbol, but its scholarly value lies in the evidence it provides about bookmaking, domestic ritual, patronage, and medieval Sephardic visual culture.
