Rabbi Yitzhak Luria (the Arizal)

Raised in Egypt by his Sephardi mother's family, he spent only about two years in Safed, yet his teachings transformed Jewish mysticism and Sephardi prayer. Nearly all of what we know came through his student Hayyim Vital.
