Our Mission & Vision

Rooted in Heritage, Reaching Across Generations

A Global Mission to Preserve Sephardic Jewish Heritage

Our mission is simple — and essential: to ensure that the richness of Sephardic Jewish life is not only preserved, but actively lived, taught, and cherished worldwide. As a global Sephardic Jewish heritage mission, we respond to a critical need: safeguarding traditions in an age of assimilation and digital transformation.

Our Vision

Our vision is of a Jewish future in which Sephardic voices, customs, melodies, and texts remain integral and thriving — not just in libraries or museums, but in living rooms, synagogues, and digital communities around the world.

Our Three Pillars

1. Preserving Cultural Memory

We chronicle the melodies, rituals, languages, and oral histories that have shaped Sephardic life for centuries. From North Africa to the Balkans, our growing digital archive safeguards voices and traditions at risk of fading — ensuring they remain vibrant and accessible.

  • Weekly Torah readings and Parasha podcasts in English and Hebrew
  • Audio-visual documentation of piyutim, te’amim, and sacred customs
  • Interviews and storytelling preserving personal and communal memories

2. Publishing Sephardic Resources

Sephardic U creates and shares accessible tools rooted in Sephardic halakha, language, and minhag. Whether you’re rediscovering tradition or deepening your practice, our resources are designed to meet you where you are — respectfully and faithfully.

  • The abridged Sephardic U Siddur (edited by Rabbi Haim Ovadia)

  • Holiday guides for Pesach, Selichot, and Hanukkah.

  • Curated books, family recipes, and learning materials

3. Building a Global, Inclusive Community

Sephardic U brings together Jews from 26+ countries — from lifelong Sephardim to Bnei Anusim, converts, and the simply curious — in meaningful connection. Our daily virtual minyanim, live study sessions, mentorship opportunities, and holiday celebrations foster unity across backgrounds and borders.

  • Virtual minyanim and live Parasha discussions

  • Annual programs like Unity in Lights (Hanukkah)

  • Referrals to trusted rabbis, teachers, and community guides

Resilience Through Adaptation

The longevity of Sephardic tradition has always rested on its ability to adapt — to new lands, new languages, and now new technologies — without sacrificing its deep roots. From Livorno to Los Angeles, from Aleppo to Argentina, Sephardic Jews have sustained their identity through an approach grounded in halakhic integrity, cultural flexibility, and inclusion.

“You can walk into almost any Moroccan home in the world on a Shabbat morning and smell the dafina wafting through the air. The prayers are familiar, the roles of father and mother honored, and the melodies shared — a sacred continuity that transcends geography.”

At Sephardic U, we embrace this living tradition — not as nostalgia, but as a roadmap forward.

Looking Ahead

As we grow, so does our vision. We’re building partnerships, digitizing rare manuscripts, launching mentorship programs, and expanding access to Sephardic education for all ages and backgrounds.

We are not a museum. We are a movement — one rooted in the past, alive in the present, and deeply invested in the Jewish future.
