Description: Learn to identify different layers and trends in the Halakhic literature, to conduct Halakhic research, and to better understand the history of laws and practices we observe.
We will learn about internal development and external influences, and of what can and should be done today in order to make Judaism user friendly and avoid religious fanaticism.
Practical and relevant examples will be presented to illustrate different concepts.

This course prepares students to learn the Laws of Shechita according to the Talmudic tradition. This program is based on the texts of the Mishneh Torah. Additionally, texts from Simlah Hadash and Shulchan Arukh are used for comparative purposes.
